Buddha Vihar is situated in Kalaburagi, a city in the Indian state of Karnataka, earlier known as Gulbarga. It is located about 6 kms from district headquarters on Sedam Road near Gulbarga University The complex blends architectural features of eminent Buddhist centres of Sanchi, Sarnath, Ajanta and Nagpur and has been constructed conforming to traditional Buddhist architecture. Buddha Vihar showcases captivating artistic designs and a harmonious blend of architectural elements. Originally planned to be smaller, the construction, which commenced in 2002, was expanded into a grand complex by the Trust, making it one of the finest in South India. Buddha Vihar was officially inaugurated by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of the Tibetan people, on 7th January 2007. The Vihara embodies the principles of non-violence and global harmony.
